What happens at your same-day visit
The $99 exam and X-rays come first. A panoramic image shows our dentist the whole tooth, its roots, and how close it sits to the nerve in the lower jaw or the sinus in the upper. From that, you get a written price and a plain explanation of what the extraction involves.
An erupted wisdom tooth comes out much like any other tooth. An impacted one is a surgical extraction: the gum is opened, a small amount of bone may be removed, and the tooth is sometimes sectioned into pieces so it comes out with less force. The area is numbed thoroughly and the dentist checks it before starting. Stitches, if any, dissolve on their own. If the site is badly infected, the dentist may treat the infection first and remove the tooth a few days later once the swelling has settled.
